eLA's Student Information System (IrisSIS™) is a web-based, self-service and user- friendly environment that facilitates different types of tasks and services related to registration, profiling, enrollment, curriculum management, grades, reporting as well as many other services. IrisSIS™ meets accountability demands for the desired performance and attainment. In short, our easy-to-use and effective system helps educational institutions reduce the time spent on administrative tasks and allows educational institutions to concentrate on their true calling, boosting students’ achievements.
The Student Information System is designed to fully incorporate and satisfy the needs of potential stakeholders of educational system -Students, Teachers, Management and Parents.
IrisSIS™ helps institution administration to plan and apply their strategy and educational philosophy in an effective, accurate, and inclusive way. By providing decision makers with timely appropriate information and instant comprehensive reports, IrisSIS™allows them to define and manage curricula, enrollment criteria, faculty regulations, as well as many other tasks. All of these can be done through few mouse clicks within a user-friendly environment.
IrisSIS™ is not only an administrative system, but a place where all stakeholders can participate under a unified educational system. IrisSIS™ allows all potential stakeholders including registration staff, teachers students, or even parents of students to work on the system and its associated repository in a smooth and concurrent manner. A student, for instance, can register for any course, from a list of courses that has been previously approved by the admission officer. That same student can then view course details (classroom location, time and date, teacher, etc.) which have been placed by the registrar. Afterwards, the student will access his grades which will be typed in by the teacher.
Access to IrisSIS™ and appropriate university information will be available locally via networks inside the university and/or globally including all self-service facilities and functions, via the Internet.
We all know that organizational underperforming is most often blamed on poor system design and\or slow response time. To effectively combat this, the Graphical User Interface of IrisSIS™ has been designed from the ground up for maximum ease of use and fast response time.
IrisSIS™ should be considered a long term investment as it is designed to, meet both the continuous and changing needs of your organization. All system configurations can be adjusted to fit new conditions, such as having changes in policies or regulations, new disciplines, larger number of stakeholders, as well as any other situation that may arise.
Due to the many techniques of open web development, IrisSIS™ can be seamlessly integrated with current or new systems adopted by your organization. Whether it’s closed or open systems, IrisSIS™ can recognize and share any kind of information coming from those systems to enhance overall functionality. Such systems can be Learning and Content Management systems, Human Resources, Student Accounting, etc.
Security is an extremely important issue in web-based applications. As a result, great emphasis was placed on various security issues during all development stages of IrisSIS™ in order to maintain a high security level across all system layers using the Authentication and Security Layer technique (ASL).
Data entry for specific information is entered once and there is no need to reenter such data again when it’s needed. This will significantly improve overall administrative efficiency and save a lot of time and effort. As an example, if an undergraduate student wants to pursue a master’s degree at the same university, there is no need to fill out a new application but just change the application type of the old one.
IrisSIS™ has extensive auditing capabilities to validate all data entry in a way which allows tracking and fixing of all errors easily and promptly before the data is saved on to the system repository. Some tracking techniques are pre-defined while others such as the maximum and minimum number of hours for a particular major can be defined by authorized users.
The intuitive interface of IrisSIS™ allows you to easily navigate and quickly utilize every part of the system, with no unexpected disappointments.
If data has been correctly inputted, then you can count on IrisSIS™ to get correct and accurate outputs. In addition, reporting, statistics, and system logs give you a full vision on what’s going on around you and allows you to double check all results.
IrisSIS™ is developed using open technologies and web techniques including XML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX), PHP and Asynchronous HTML and HTTP (AHAH). Hence, all you need for full utilization of IrisSIS™ is a web server that is capable of interpreting these scripts at the application server's side and a normal web browser at the client's side. IrisSIS™ supports relational databases. The current database in use is MySQL; two types are in use: InnoDB and MEMORY storage engine.
